Thou Art Here Theatre is accepting applications from Edmonton and area based actors for our upcoming premiere production of Civil Blood: A Treaty Story in July-August, 2024
SYNOPSIS
Tensions are high. The fur trade is collapsing, settlers are encroaching into the territories of the First Nations, and the newly founded Canadian government is attempting to define itself through law and order. Tribes are suffering from scarcity of food, destroyed hunting grounds, starvation, and the ever-burdensome whiskey. Among tension and treaties, two star-crossed lovers, two young people: a Nehiyaw huntress and a French scholar discover a passion for one another. Through the mounting unrest that surrounds them, they seek their own bountiful unity. Civil Blood weaves the texts of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, Treaty #6, and Josh Languedoc’s own learnings of traditional stories into a reimagined contemporary tale. CAST
Ekah – Daughter of the chief. Young, fiery and passionate.
Kahkakis – “Little raven.” Half-blood and half-son to Governor Sampson.
Waciy – “Mountain/hill,” grand chief of the Nehiyaw village. Ekah’s Father
Astêkamâw – “It is still water,” the healer of the Nehiyaw. Ekah’s Mother.
Takah – A well-respected Nehiyaw warrior. Ekah’s brother; a spirit.
Julian – Inheritor to Fort Edmonton. Young, calm, and pensive.
Pauline – Younger sibling to Julian. Ally to most.
Father Gabriel – Julian and Pauline’s Uncle and Guardian. Holy man of Fort Edmonton.
Governor Sampson – Father to Lily. Officer of the Hudson Bay Company.
Agatha Sampson – Wife to the Governor. Mother to Lily; a spirit.
Lily Sampson – The Governor’s daughter. Wise, calm, and passionate.
CONTRACT DATES
Rehearsals: July 2 – July 22, 2024
Performances: July 23 – August 4, 2024
COMPENSATION
Payment will be in accordance with D.O.T Equity minimum fees. Equity and non-equity performers are welcome to apply.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Please prepare one contemporary monologue. Auditions will consist of prepared monologue, and cold readings of the play.
Only Edmonton and area based actors may apply.
Present at the auditions will be directors Neil Bye-Kuefler and Mark Vetsch. All auditions will take place at The Playhouse (10033 80 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB) on Thursday January 4 and Friday January 5, 2024 9:30am-5:00pm
