Cycle

May 19 & 20, 2023 @ 7:30pm

Studio B at the ATB Financial Arts Barns (10330 84 Ave)

Cycle explores urban bicycling, the politics of active transportation in Canada, and asks who has a right to the city? Inspired by Ritchie’s experience as a bike food courier in Toronto and his lifelong passion for cycling; the play examines gig work culture with a focus on the financial and physical precariousness of trying to ‘make a living’ in Canada today.

Civil Blood: A Treaty Story

May 28, 2023 @ Fort Edmonton Park

Co-created by Josh Languedoc and Neil Kuefler, Civil Blood explores the complex tensions between First Nations and the European Settlers at the end of the fur trade. Among tension and treaties, three star-crossed lovers: a Nehiyaw hunter, a high-born British loyalist, and a French scholar discover the difference between truth and passion. Through the mounting unrest that surrounds them, they seek their own bountiful unity.

Weaving the texts of Romeo and Juliet, Treaty #6, and their own learnings of traditional stories into a reimagined contemporary tale, Civil Blood invites the audience to discover the present truth by exploring our collective past. Staged at the replica Fort in Fort Edmonton Park the performance will split the audience in two in an immersive interwoven performance.

Write Here Immersive Playwrights Unit

Thou Art Here Theatre is launching our inaugural Write Here Immersive Playwright’s Unit. This unit will support the development of three new immersive theatre plays by Edmonton playwrights. Each playwright will meet individually with a collaborator/dramaturg throughout the year as they develop the first draft of a new work. Each playwright will also receive a weeklong workshop with a creative team and the option of a public staged reading of their play.

We believe immersive theatre has the power to highlight communities, locations, and landmarks. Our hope is that these plays will shine a light on special parts of our city through the eyes of these playwrights.
